The Talking Door
“Every new experience in life can be represented by a door.”
Located next to a war memorial, The Talking Door is a piece of public art and an interactive platform. One side of the door features imagery from the Vietnam War; the other is covered with handwritten words from hundreds of people, in various languages and reflecting diverse ideologies.
As a meeting space for people and their words, it echoes the shared human experience through handwriting.
The Talking Door is also an evolving mirror. Visitors are invited to reflect on its imagery and the meanings behind the words, then add their own—words rooted in personal values and lived experience. Returning another day, they may find their contributions among those of many others.
Together, these voices in many languages and perspectives turn the door into a meditation on remembrance—not only of the Vietnam War, but of conflicts around the world.
